Balluff to Open Technology Office in the Heart of Budapest

Site Expansion Planned at Balluff in Budapest

New office for the development of software and electronics in the capital’s center: the leading sensor and automation specialist expands its presence in Hungary.

Balluff expands its technology team at the Veszprém location and plans to open a new office in the nearby metropolis of Budapest in the coming months. Move-in is planned to take place as early as the middle of the year. As a next step, Balluff plans to double the ten positions in software and firmware development that were advertised initially, focusing mainly on software:

"When it comes to innovations in sensor and automation technology, software is becoming increasingly important and complex," explains Managing Director Florian Hermle. "That is why our goal is to get young developers and electronic engineers excited about our interesting tasks and to offer the best possible working environment. Budapest is a unique location: a global, lively city with an excellent mix of expertise and talent."

Close Contact with Universities

Balluff has a long-standing partnership with the renowned universities in Budapest and their technical departments through training programs and the supervision of numerous final theses. The automation specialist is now expanding this cooperation: joint events, guest lectures, and recruiting events intensify the contact and raise awareness among young talents for the exciting challenges at Balluff.

"Our global technology teams are always on the lookout for new skills," emphasizes Hubertus Breier, Senior Vice President Technology. "There is never a lack of challenges—be it in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence, automation technology, or cybersecurity." Worldwide, 600 employees work in the Balluff technology team on innovations, new products and further developments for automation. The majority of them work in the Innovation and Competence Center at the German headquarters in Neuhausen a.d.F. and in the TEC Hub at the Veszprém site.

Uncomplicated Start Thanks to New Work Concept

When integrating the new technology office in Budapest with the main Hungarian location in Veszprém, Balluff benefits from its existing New Work concept. Flat hierarchies, project-based collaboration and efficient project management ensure a smooth start. Zoltán Wimmer, Head of Development at Veszprém site, emphasizes: "The new office is an integral part of the TEC Hub in Veszprém. Good communication right from the start is important to us. That is why we support the team on site, and colleagues from Veszprém will regularly come to Budapest." Through the internal Balluff eAcademy, employees can also access a variety of training courses on their own responsibility.

Co-working in Modern Working Environment

To provide the new team with a modern working environment in the heart of Budapest, Balluff has partnered up with the co-working company SPACES. "Finding suitable office space in such a sought-after metropolis was challenging," says Breier. “What we’re looking for in the new office is clear: modern workspaces, proximity to the universities, public transportation, and highways, as well as the latest technical equipment. Happy, motivated employees are at the heart of our success. With SPACES, we have found the perfect partner for the implementation.”

New Work in the Historic Old Town

The SPACES Corvin Towers are located in the center of Budapest’s old town and offer employees numerous advantages: Light-flooded co-working spaces, meeting rooms, as well as workout and breakout areas extend over three modernly furnished floors. The Danube is only a few minutes by foot away, with numerous cafés and restaurants on the riverbank.

"Nevertheless, we know that good work does not depend on location and time of day," adds Michael Weinfurter, Head of Global Human Resources. "That is why we also support flexible working models at the new location. Remote working and optimal working conditions as well as a wide range of benefits are a natural part of our company culture."

The new office is planned to be ready for move-in by August 2022. Among the initially advertised positions are DevOps engineers, E-CAD layouter as well as soft- and firmware developers. After the move, Balluff plans to extensively expand its relationship with Budapest’s universities and technical departments.
