EECC partnered with CISC
European EPC Competence Center (EECC) has partnered with CISC on its latest annual report, titled 'UHF RFID Transponder Benchmark (UTPS)' that helps retailers to determine which RFID tags they should be using, and highlights the costs and specific pain points each platform tackles. RFID Xplorer was used in the testing process as the 'benchmark' test equipment.
Xplorer is a test equipment that measures the performance of RAIN devices and application setups, verify conformance and support the development of tags, readers and ICs. It offers features such as extended read and write memory tests and supports testing for crypto suites fully supporting EPCglobal and ISO/IEC test standards.
Xplorer also can also perform all Brazil RFID test standards such as SINIAV, ARTESP and Brasil ID and TIPP testing. Additionally to providing a test solution for all RAIN RFID / Gen2 / ISO/IEC 18000-63 related conformance and performance, it is also the only equipment with the capability of providing EN 302 208 testing, more commonly known as the RED testing.
“The main challenge of the report was to process the high amount of measurements. The report concludes 24 measurement series for each of the 365 selected tags and is the world’s most comprehensive tag report” said Conrad von Bonin, the EECC's CEO. “RFID Xplorer was selected for applicable testing processes due the extensive capabilities and features and its great usability for such huge amount of different measurements”.
The key characteristics of the tag were measured. This includes read range, backscatter range and write range over frequency and operating range of the tag. With Xplorer the user also has the possibility to create user definable customized command sequences that allowed a wide range of options to test the behavior of a tag in different scenarios.
“Overall increase in the adoption of the RAIN technology now offers varied tagging and tracing challenges. RFID Xplorer is one stop solution for all these challenges helping the users to understand both tags and readers.” said Josef Preishuber-Pfluegl, EVP, CTO and Business Manager RFID+NFC CISC Semiconductor.
In addition to testing of RAIN tags, Xplorer is also used to test the performance and conformance of RAIN readers. Testing the sensitivity of a RFID reader is done with defined precision over multiple parameters such as transmit power, Back Link Frequency (BLF) and the impact of signal it receives from the tag. Together with the CISC Phase Shifter, the RFID Xplorer can measure the receiver sensitivity of the reader for different phase shifts of the tag response. Xplorer can also analyze the communication between RAIN readers and tags with its advanced RAIN RFID application optimizer called Sniffer.
