Single Sign-On (SSO) from Elatec for Smart Office and Home Office

Convenient Access to All Systems with RFID Card and Smartphone

Every company needs to ensure that only authorized users have access to files, networks and applications. These are usually protected by passwords. Elatec offers a user-friendly solution to the password jungle: secure single sign-on (SSO) authentication and access via the corporate ID card and ELATEC universal readers. The solution combines login software with Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) or even smartphone-enabled technologies such as Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) for user authentication and access control.

Integration of an SSO process can be quickly implemented. A reader can either be integrated directly into a computer or connected externally via USB. After software installation, the company ID card or smartphone can simply be held in front of it—and the user is already logged in to all systems for which he is authorized.

Enhanced Security with SSO and Multifactor Authentication

In high-security areas, it is often necessary to include additional security factors in the authorization process. This is also possible with Elatec. "For example, I have 3-factor authentication on my computer," explains Christophe Aubry, Global Account Manager at Elatec, "which only works with my RFID card, a PIN and facial recognition. If any of these factors are missing, my computer remains locked."

Two-step, or multi-step, authentication exists in many variants. Formulated as an abstract principle, it consists of the first factor "knowledge" (usually a password) and the second factor "biometrics" (e.g., fingerprint or palm vein) or "possession" (e.g., smartphone). This two-tier or multi-level approach makes it more difficult for unauthorized third parties to access highly sensitive data and applications. In close cooperation with various partners, Elatec offers different SSO and multifactor solutions.

SSO in the Home Office

Since the beginning of the pandemic, employees have increasingly been working from home and thus in a potentially unsecured environment. Interruptions to computer work by children or visitors can easily lead to a security breach. The unlocked PC then provides unauthorized access to all files and systems. With SSO, it is not a problem if the employee leaves his computer. The card or smartphone must be presented to log in. If the transponder medium is no longer in the reading area because the user is carrying it, the computer is automatically locked.

Versatile RFID Readers for Secure and Convenient Access

Depending on the model, Elatec's multi-frequency readers can either be integrated directly into a device or connected to a PC via USB at a later date. The new TWN4 MultiTech Nano LEGIC 63 M, for example, measures only 31 x 17.8 x 2.7 mm, which is roughly equivalent to the dimensions of an SD card. This multi-frequency reader supports all internationally used RFID technologies in the high- and low-frequency range and also enables the use of digital access authorizations via cell phones.
