IOT technologies used in Healthcare Industry

IoT applications offer far-reaching potentials for the optimisation of processes in order not only to reduce costs, but in particular to raise patient care to a completely new level. In this area, we present comprehensive expert knowledge on the use of innovative technologies in healthcare.

In the health care sector, especially hospitals have advanced their systems with wireless technologies like RFID in recent years. The highest priority in such an environment is patient safety and satisfaction. Reducing medical costs and waiting times benefit the recovery process.

With automated asset management systems that track tagged items and gather information about the location and status of medical devices, smart inventory solutions that inform the staff that something is missing, expired, or about to run out, wireless technologies offer a broad range of possibilities for improving the day-to-day operations.

Hygiene and sterilisation can be monitored and documented through RFID systems with tags that withstand high temperatures and liquids. Laundry carts, patient beds, surgery instruments – the tracking and labeling solutions these technologies offer allow for less manual labor hours in the areas of inventory and maintenance and free up valuable time for patient care.

Access control can be provided by RFID cards and gates. Barcodes can be used for serialised medication labels and damaged packages can be detected via RFID. With self-service solutions, patients can access their own medicine and laundry without needing staff assistance.

In laboratories, automated systems can provide information about samples or equipment functionality. Sensors monitor data like temperature for sensitive materials like blood reserves or medication. With the introduction of wearable sensors that allow for external patient monitoring and send data like heart rate or body temperature to the hospital for long-term monitoring. They can also be used by patients themselves – by diabetics, for example, to be able to constantly monitor blood sugar levels.
