Car Tires with Embedded RFID Tags

Tire Information Service

The RFID tags enable a standardized access to tire information databases. The tags remain in the tire until the end of the product's life.

Retrieving Tire Information Digitally

The Tire Information Service is a digital platform designed by the GDSO that standardizes access to information on all manufactured car tires.

When the RFID tags are read, a verification of user authenticity is carried out. Only authorized persons, such as employees of partner companies or workshops, are able to access the tire information databases.

UHF RFID tags are mechanically encased in a rubber layer and installed directly in tire production. The tags remain in the tire until the end of its service life. There is no possibility of damaging the tag without destroying the tire.

The information stored on the RFID chip can be read at various points in the automotive value chain, for example in workshops or in logistics processes.

Users capture the RFID tags in the tire with an RFID reader, and the information read is transmitted to user software. This connects to the GDSO Tire Information Service via the Internet. Based on the captured data, the resolver determines the web service address of the tire manufacturer.

Via an authentication service set up in parallel, the user is assigned a digital token based on the user profile. The application is then redirected to the tire manufacturer's web service and access is verified. The requested tire data is retrieved each manufacturer database.
