NXP's Dedicated Portfolio of Highly Integrated UWB IoT Solutions
Devices are becoming increasingly intelligent and the line that once separated them from the physical world is getting blurred more than ever.
Here, we take a closer look into how you can benefit from the new functionalities using a tailored set of NXP development kits. NXP development tools are based on NXP Trimension SR150 and SR040, a dedicated portfolio of highly integrated UWB IoT solutions. Both solutions are able to run UWB autonomously with all firmware running on the chip. Also, our Trimension SR150 and SR040 UWB chips have been MFi certified to be interoperable with the Apple U1 chip in Apple devices.

Developers using MFi-certified NXP Trimension ICs will leverage the interoperability with Apple U1 equipped devices and thus get their devices to market faster. On-chip handling of all PHY/MAC operations within the UWB IC is also compliant with FiRa Consortium™ specifications.
“Ultra-Wideband (UWB) enables a seamless connection between devices and the physical world in ways that lead to unprecedented user experiences. Its unique property allows it to perform ranging with pinpoint accuracy while using little power to send signals and ensure stable connectivity. These capabilities make UWB relevant for automotive, mobile, IoT and Industrial applications”

New Combinations of UWB and AR Made Possible
Using NXP’s range of development kits that interoperate with Apple's U1 chip, you can now develop software features that help guide users towards nearby objects and items. By using nearby interaction camera assistance mode, your apps can direct users to an item equipped with a Trimension SR150 or SR040, and can show its location in an AR view with on-screen navigation. This functionality can be handy in several ways: imagine customer-built apps helping you find demos at an exhibition or locating your bike among hundreds of other bikes at a bicycle station or finding a specific item in a shop.
Accessory Background Sessions
NXP's Trimension SR150 and SR040 can also enable hands-free interactions with nearby objects and items. By using nearby interaction's accessory background sessions, your apps can continue to exchange real-time spatial information with paired devices that are equipped with UWB, even when users aren't actively using your apps. This brings a whole range of new possibilities. For example, being able to trigger real-world actions hands-free means users can enjoy new experiences such as starting a piece of music by just walking into a room or turning on a paired e-bike for a workout by just getting on it.
Grow the World of UWB Today
NXP offers UWB development kits for various use cases and regions. All of these kits support the new nearby interaction features mentioned above.
