New building block Process Values of OPC UA for Machinery harmonizes measured variables, setpoints and limits!
Based on the standard OPC UA for Process Values from the OPC Foundation, VDMA is publishing a new interface standard, harmonizing sensor values, setpoints and limits for the entire machinery and plant engineering sector.

"This is another big step towards our goal of interoperability for production information from the shopfloor to the cloud. We achieve this through a new building block in the cross-industry interface standard OPC UA For Machinery, which forms the basis for the Global Production Language," says Andreas Faath, head of Machine Information Interoperability.
The new building block, titled Process Values, was published as OPC 40001-1 Part 2. In the ongoing digital transformation, more and more sensors are being installed in machines and thus more process data is being made available. The new standard meets the industry's need to communicate this data interoperably and with stored semantics.
This applies not only to discrete manufacturing, but also to continuous manufacturing. For this reason, the process industry was considered from the beginning and the collaboration with the PA-DIM group was initiated. By collaborating and using existing specifications, coherence in the ecosystem interoperability between discrete and continuous manufacturing is ensured. Finally, a harmonized solution was created, which uses the PA-DIM standard.
VDMA is presenting the Global Production Language with the base specification OPC UA for Machinery this week from 8.11.2022 to 10.11.2022 at the SPS show in Nuremberg at booth 138 in hall 5.
