OPC UA for ISA100 Wireless

Collaboration: Kick-Off - WCI & OPCF JWG “UA for ISA100 Wireless".

The joint ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute (WCI) and OPC Foundation Working Group will develop an OPC UA Information Model and companion specification for use with ISA100 Wireless technology. WCI anticipates that working group will also result in updates to the ISA100 technology to fully exploit OPC UA technology for support IOT ISA100 Wireless products.

WCI defines a standardised data exchange format for the engineering process of production systems. OPC UA defines a communication infrastructure that can be used to exchange files based on the WCI standard.

Overview

Modern automation systems consist of a variety of sensors and actuators. Many of these devices are in locations or in environments where wiring can be very difficult and very expensive. The WCI (ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute) is the certification organization that provides compliance certification to the ISA100 Wireless standard to assure interoperability of wireless devices.

Integrating ISA100 wireless devices and Gateways with OPC UA compliant systems will provide a consistent and open standardized interface.

WCI defines a standardised data exchange format for the engineering process of production systems. OPC UA defines a communication infrastructure that can be used to exchange files based on the WCI standard.

Typical use-cases include:

  • Wireless Network Monitoring and Management
  • Providing Wireless Sensor Measurands to DCS systems using OPC UA
  • Wireless Device Alarm Reporting

ISA100 Wireless meets requirements of ETSI EN 300 328 v1.8.1 for coexistence with nearby 2.4 GHz radio devices.

ISA100 WCI provides real-world feedback from the deployment of ISA100 Wireless devices and systems to ISA Standards Committees, fostering rapid refinement to the standards.
