Schreiner Group: 10 Years of RFID at the Warnow Toll Tunnel

RFID Windshield Label by Schreiner PrinTrust Used by Warnowquerung GmbH & Co. KG Since 2012

It is one of Europe’s most modern road tunnels, spares thousands of commuters per day from being stuck in stop-and-go traffic in downtown Rostock, and has an automatic payment system that has now been proven in use for a decade: the RFID-Windshield-Label from Schreiner PrinTrust.

The label has been used by the private-sector operator, Warnowquerung GmbH & Co. KG, since 2012. After ten years, the small high-tech label is still enjoying high customer acceptance.

Once correctly applied to the inside of the windshield, it is very easy to use: when a car passes the toll station it just takes the label a few seconds to connect with the client’s account and to debit it with the rate to be paid. There is no need for the driver to stop because the barrier opens automatically. Another benefit: all twelve lanes can be used with the RFID label; two of them are reserved specifically for those users.

With the RFID Label All Twelve Lanes Can Be Used

Thanks to the trustful collaboration with technical service provider B&S Data Systems the label from Schreiner PrinTrust and the RFID infrastructure are optimally coordinated and with a read range of nearly 100 % ensure a free flow of traffic and satisfied customers—after 75 million passages!

“I am happy about the collaboration and mutual trust we have enjoyed with Schreiner PrinTrust across this long period of time,” says Yvonne Osterkamp, General Manager of Warnowquerung GmbH & Co. KG. “We have always been engaged in intensive exchanges with the teams and as a customer feel that we are receiving very good support and advice. This solution is simply optimally suited for our purposes—and with it we are also going to achieve the 100 million!”

A distant goal? Not at all, considering the constantly increasing traffic in Rostock. It is probably safe to assume that the toll road and underwater shortcut will remain the option that drivers choose to benefit their wallet, their nerves, and nature.
