Technology Know-How for Digital Transformation

LPWAN means “low power wide area network”. It encompasses different technologies which cover large distances while consuming significantly less power than cellular-based technologies. It includes, among others, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT or Mioty and is most suitable for locations that are difficult to reach such as basements or attics and in applications for which real-time communications are not required. Typical applications include smart city solutions such as smart metering, smart parking and sensor-based condition monitoring.

Wolfgang Weber, Global Industry Manager at Pepperl+Fuchs explains in an interview with RFID & Wireless IoT Global why LoRaWAN fulfills the requirements for a potent radio network extremely well, but the expectations regarding the number of gateways have not yet been met.
