Tageos Launches ARC-approved Baggage Tracking Inlays

Tageos Launches Market’s Smallest ARC-approved Baggage Tracking Inlays

Against the backdrop of re-emerging momentum in the aviation industry and the rollout of RFID inlays in aviation baggage tracking, Tageos today announced the market’s smallest dedicated IATA resolution-compliant RAIN RFID products, and the first Impinj M700-based inlays with ARC Spec U certification.

Tageos’ new EOS-350 M700 inlays, which mimic a suitcase in their design, are the smallest RAIN RFID (UHF) inlays approved for the aviation industry. Airlines and airports now have access to high-performance, innovative and sustainable products for track and trace applications in the market.

The new inlays stand out because of two key features: an ultra-compact size with a 17% smaller antenna than the next smallest product on ARC’s Spec U approved inlay list; and the pioneering use of Impinj's latest M700 IC family.

Performance and Sustainability

Back in 2018, the board of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced plans to standardize and mandate RFID inlays in luggage tags globally. Though slowed down by the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of these plans is regaining momentum.

Enabling the requirements defined in IATA resolution 753 and specified in Auburn University RFID Lab’s Spec U, the EOS-350 RAIN RFID inlays are initially equipped with Impinj M730 ICs and fully leverage the capabilities of their ground-breaking IC technology. With 128-bit EPC memory, the Impinj M730 chips provide high performance, fast inventory capability, and advanced features for next-generation RAIN RFID inlays and tags.

The EOS-350 M700 feature a 60 mm x 30 mm aluminum antenna and operate globally in the UHF band (860 – 960 MHz). Perfectly tuned to one another, the modern IC and Tageos’ latest antenna design enable excellent inlay performance.

With their minimized footprint and a corresponding weight reduction of approximately 20% compared to the next smallest Spec U approved product, Tageos’ new high-quality inlays also contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of aircraft operations as well as the inlay manufacturing process.

Giving Impetus to the Baggage Tracking Market

“With our new EOS-350 M700 inlays, we are demonstrating our ability to anticipate the latest customer and market needs, and to push the boundaries to the next level in terms of application-relevant RFID performance. We expect the new inlays to kick-start the market for RFID-based baggage tracking systems,” said Chris Reese, Head of Product Management at Tageos.

EOS-350 M700 RAIN RFID inlays are available in dry, wet and paper-face delivery formats and in large volumes as of now. Further inlay variations based on Impinj M700 ICs will follow in due course.
