Geolocation with Semtech’s LoRa® Chipsets
Semtech has recently launched its third generation of LoRa chipsets that allow for secure provisioning of devices by using Semtech’s LoRa Cloud™ services, which also provides geolocation for indoor and outdoor applications using GNSS and Wi-Fi-scanning at ultra-low power consumption.
“The new cloud services are a game-changer for many tracking applications, since a separate GPS module is no longer required in devices,” explains Roelof Koopmans. “Semtech’s LoRa Cloud calculates the position based on data transmitted by LoRa Edge™ chipsets thereby offloading the power-consumption by the device.”
The tracking devices can last several years, have a lower cost bill of materials (BoM) than the usual GPS trackers, and do not need cellular networks (4G/5G) to connect to a Cloud application.
