Automotive Assembly of the Future – Lecture at Think WIOT Day

5G, Mobile Robotics, Matrix Production, Lineless Assembly!

Lecture by Guido Hüttemann on March 17th about the "AIMFREE" Research Project!

Gudio Hüttemann, Center Manager, XL Assembly at RWTH Aachen Campus, will hold a lecture on March 17th on the topic of 5G edge control for the automotive assembly of the future.

The increased shift to electromobility is impacting development and the entire value chain. The automotive industry in particular is facing the challenge of integrating electric vehicles into existing assembly lines. A rapid response to the changing sales market is required. The goal: To realize an agile assembly environment, as well as to minimize time and financial integration efforts in assembly lines.

Open Linkage: New Organizational Form for Agile Assembly

Low adaptability and rigid process sequence in terms of location and time - these are sometimes among the characteristics of interlinked production systems. In order to increase the adaptability and to be able to easily and flexibly adapt production systems, open linkage is required.

The methodology of the joint project "AIMFREE": A simulation-based, automated scenario analysis for short-term assembly system design and a dynamic and centralized control. The result: An open interlinking of workstations.

"To link the simulation, control system and planning, an overall model of an assembly line is developed. The assembly environment is built with modular and autonomously reconfigurable workstations and flexible intralogistics. This includes flexible main material flow through self-driving vehicles. The self-driving vehicles use the existing onboard sensors and their own drive. For the demonstrative implementation of such an assembly environment, the final assembly up to and including the end-of-line area will be considered," explains Guido Hüttemann.
