Turck Vilant Takes Part in GS1 Pulp RFID Tagging Guideline

GS1 ratifies new guidelines that define how pulp units should be RFID tagged!

GS1 lead a work group that consisted of GS1 experts, pulp producers, pulp consumers and pulp and paper industry RFID experts including Turck Vilant Systems.

The work group considered different scenarios and usage environment in the pulp supply chain and put together guidelines for the RFID tagging that should ensure pulp tagged as according to the GS1 standard will be usable by all operators from pulp production to harbors and all the way to the pulp consumers.

The new guideline discusses

  • requirements on RFID tag level ensuring that tags are pulpable and durable enough for the supply chain of pulp and paper companies
  • functionality of the tags: the RFID tags must be identifiable from at least 2 opposite sides in order for different logistical operations to be supported
  • performance needs for bundled pulp units (stating a minimum requirements for read distance)
  • RFID tag encoding and tag content

“We at Turck Vilant Systems are proud to have been a part of this important work lead by GS1. We are extremely happy that the work has paid off and we finally have clear guidance for our pulp producer and pulp consumer customers. It puts us a notch closer to our goal of touching the lives of people around the world by tracking the pulp that it is used to produce paper for them,” says Ville Kauppinen, Managing Director of Turck Vilant Systems.
