Smart Prostheses Open Up New RFID Use Cases for Health Monitoring
By equipping prostheses such as orthopedic supports, dental capsules or heart valves with RFID, they can be turned into smart monitoring devices for healthcare 4.0 applications. Prof. Gaetano Marrocco will explain the new opportunities of RFID in healthcare in the following use cases:
- Early detection of structural alteration of orthopedic implants by smart tattoo
- Identification of local infections around bone fixtures
- Monitoring of restenosis into stent-treated arteries
- Health status of aortic valves
The RFID sensors of the smart prostheses monitor the health condition of patients, providing previously unobtainable data for medical staff and healthcare operators.
