omlox: Brand New UWB Open Industry Standard at #WIOTtomorrow20 DIGITAL

Manufacturer-independent access to location data - Open UltraWide-Band localization!

Tracking and tracing, asset management, navigation of AGVs or drones - many processes in production and logistics require precise localization. Tracking and tracing, asset management, navigation of AGVs or drones - many processes in production and logistics require precise localization.

Over the past two years, a group of companies – initiated by TRUMPF – has developed an open localization standard, which was introduced to the public in June 2020 and passed on to the non-profit organization Profibus Nutzerorganisation e.V. (PNO) for further development.

omlox as a new industry standard pursues two main goals to take intralogistics to a whole new level

  1. omlox provides localization data via a uniform interface and integrates all existing technologies like UWB, BLE, RFID, 5G or GPS. This way, tracking solutions from different suppliers can be cost-effectively networked within a production facility and software systems do not have to be continually adapted.
  2. The special focus on UWB: The developers of omlox recognize the technology's comprehensive potential for broad integration into industrial processes. The UWB market is currently very fragmented. The connection of all UWB devices independent of proprietary interfaces – this is something omlox has placed high on its agenda.

Flexible, Open and Independent

"omlox offers an established playing field with a set of rules, and safeguards investments in technologies. The flexibility – omlox runs on edge computing devices as well as in the cloud – creates the basis for future-proof systems," emphasizes Dr. Matthias Jöst, Committee Leader for omlox within the PNO, "Every company is welcome as a member of the PNO, can have its devices certified and branded, and participate in the further development of omlox".

Lecture in the Industrial IoT Forum

On December 2nd, Dr. Jöst will be holding a lecture titled, "omlox - the Open Locating Standard Unified Access to Location Data - Seamless Tracking With UWB" about the motivation to establish a standard worldwide. Furthermore, Dr. Jöst will explain how every industrial company, whether SME or global player, can benefit from the advantages of standardized networking of localization technologies.
