The Estonian start-up CupLOOP has developed a reverse vending machine for reusable packaging with RFID technology. After the container is returned, the refundable deposit is credited back via NFC technology.
Marek Suchaževski explains application scenarios for the reverse vending machine in his lecture. The vision of Cuploop's founders is that the vending machine will dominate the cityscape in smart cities in the future. What is behind this vision? The developers are looking at the transparent and convenient return of reusable containers. RFID is part of this solution, because containers can be identified in just a few seconds both when they are returned and in warehouses. By the end of 2021, a total of 11 vending machines were in use at 6 locations.
