5G for Networked Industrial Production

5G Use Cases

Speaker: Sarah Schmitt, Research Associate, Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT

Title: Live from the European 5G-Industry Campus Europe: Vibration and Acoustic Emission Sensors Demonstrated for Condition Monitoring and Industrial Process Control

Content:

    • Live demonstration of 5G applications
    • 5G sensors in machines
    • Process monitoring and control in real time with 5G
    • Use case 1: Vibration measurement in engines
    • Use case 2: Condition monitoring for drilling tools
    • Use case 3: Real-time control with 5G over TSN

Low latency and high data rates of up to 10 Gbit/s make 5G technology a prerequisite for networked production with numerous devices operating simultaneously. At the 5G Industry Campus Europe, Fraunhofer IPT operates a 5G test environment with Swedish mobile and radio and telecommunications provider Ericsson.

Sarah Schmitt will demonstrate three practical 5G use cases:

The technology enables wireless sensor connections for in-process data analysis and adaptive control of the manufacturing process.
