Product Milestones Reached in 2021 To Continue in 2022
From portable RFID readers, to data loggers, to RFID modules – Italian hardware manufacturer CAEN RFID has made great leaps in the expansion of the product portfolio in 2021. Despite the challenges of the chip shortage and COVID-19 pandemic, CAEN RFID plans to continue this expansion and push forward with the production of its new RFID modules in 2022.
Portable RAIN RFID Reader skID
Part of the array of products launched by CAEN RFID in 2021 is Mini Sled RAIN RFID Reader skID. This portable RFID reader belongs to the easy2read© product line and is equipped with an integrated antenna for medium range applications. The skID can transform any smartphone into a RAIN RFID terminal to facilitate inventory processes.
In March 2021, CAEN RFID announced an entry-level RFID-based asset tracking solution by combining both the skID and Tagmatiks AT Lite, a cloud-based asset tracking platform developed by RFID4U.
“The skID was one of our most successful products in 2021” says Stefano Coluccini, CFO at CAEN RFID. “The launch of the skID was a great milestone for us. The reader is compatible with all smartphones, and is flexible and powerful in terms of usage. Many of our customers use the skID for applications in retail, including inventory management or using the reader on the shop floor as a mobile POS.”
RFID Data Loggers with Integrated Sensors
In 2021, CAEN RFID also launched two RFID data loggers – the RT0012 which has temperature sensing capabilities and the RT0013, with both temperature and humidity sensors. Both data loggers were launched as a new family of dual-frequency loggers designed for track and trace applications.
“These data loggers were actually an update of a product that we already had in our product portfolio”, says Stefano Coluccini. “What’s special about these data loggers is that they have both a RAIN RFID interface and an NFC interface. In logistics applications, the RAIN RFID interface can be captured by RAIN RFID portals or reading points along the supply chain. The NFC interface can be configured so that smartphones can be used to capture the data as well. This was a great advancement in our product portfolio.”
New Product Developments in 2022
The expert team at CAEN RFID plan to further increase the product offerings for customers in 2022. Part of the product pipeline include the production of the new Lepton modules that were built based on the new E310 and E710 chips from Impinj. An exact timeline for the product launch is difficult due to persisting problems with materials. “But I can say for sure that the modules will go in production in 2022. The prototypes are already in key testing phases at some of our key customers and we expect these products to be successful as well,” says Stefano Colucinni, with a positive outlook for 2022.
