FEIG Readers in Use at Toro Aluminum Group of Companies

RFID System for the Track and Trace of Aluminum Windows

Fixed UHF RFID readers and antennas from FEIG ELECTRONIC are being used by Toro Aluminum Group of Companies to track and localize aluminum windows right from production, through to shipment and delivery. The readers and antennas from FEIG ELECTRONIC are an integral part of the RFID system, provided by RFID Canada.

Track and Trace of Aluminum Windows

The challenge for Toro Aluminum Group of Companies was to have a transparent overview of orders, and improved visibility of all assets, namely the aluminum windows produced for highrise buildings. The company needed to know exactly where missing items were located and required a real-time solution for accurate inventory. In 2021, RFID Canada, introduced an RFID asset tracking solution, together with FEIG ELECTRONIC and other partners.

Fixed Readers at All Dock Doors

Each aluminum window is tagged with a UHF RFID label from production and given a unique ID. FEIG ELECTRONIC antennas and fixed readers are installed on every dock door and logistics checkpoint at the production warehouse of Toro Aluminum Group of Companies. This fixed RFID infrastructure is managed by the RFID Hub system from RFID Canada. The data of each aluminum window is captured in real-time and transmitted to the ERP system at Toro Aluminum Group of Companies. This ensures that the company has an accurate overview of all windows that exit the warehouse and placed in delivery trucks.

Precise Reading Required

Toro Aluminum Group of Companies' main production facility consists of ten production lines. Each production line starts at the CNC machine. There are two checkpoints on the assembly line, at the beginning and at the end. "We configured these checkpoints so that there is always a very accurate and defined reading range," says Khaled Elshimy, CEO of RFID Canada. "The challenge was that the FEIG readers should only read what is on the conveyor belt and not what is on the adjacent belt. The adjacent line only contains products that are currently not allowed to be delivered because they require inspection or a component is missing. The reading needed to be very precise."
